A recipe adapted from the American South. Shrimp covered in spices and sizzled in lard instead of butter to make it lactose-free. Carl absolutely loves this recipe!

Blackened Shrimp

Ingredients

  • 400 g shrimp
  • ½ tbsp lard
  • 2 tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp dried chives
  • ¼ tsp dried basil
  • ¼ tsp dried thyme
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper (use more/less or omit, as desired)

Instructions

Method

  • Step 1
    • Mix the blackening spices, smoked paprika, garlic, salt, chives, basil, thyme, black pepper and cayenne pepper in a bowl.
    • Mix the shrimp into the blackening spices, and cover each shrimp completely.
  • Step 2
    • Melt the lard on medium to high heat. (Number 8.)
  • Step 3
    • When the lard is hot, fry the shrimp for about 2 mins on each side until cooked.
    • They should turn pinkish when done.
  • Step 4
    • Serve.
